Community Building produces a safe environment where students can feel comfortable expressing their thoughts and ideas while communicating effectively and working well with students of different ages
• Rooms are designated by a team logo or name that does not reflect grade.
• Public comparisons are avoided such as star charts and the posting of reading levels.
• Learning and experiences are shared and discussed in a grand conversation.
• Cross-age groups are visibly interacting and learning together in the lunchroom, on the playgrounds and in the classroom.
• Students assist in establishing a daily schedule that accounts for their learning needs.
• Learning and accomplishments are celebrated.
• Extrinsic rewards are used on a limited basis.
