Inquiry
Inquiry is used to engage learners as researchers on topics that are based on curriculum, student curiosity, questions and interest
• Students engage in the skills of inquiry using questions to clarify unfamiliar ideas and to discover new information.
• Teachers ask open-ended questions to foster a student’s natural curiosity and the pursuit of a deeper understanding of learning.
• Materials at various levels are available for students to explore their interests.
• Students participate in inquiry circles, exploring topics of interest, researching and sharing new learning with others in a variety of ways.
• Student work reflects the unique understanding of new learning each student gained through the process of inquiry.
• A “Wall of Inquiry” exists in each classroom so that students have a place to post topics and questions for further study.
• Social Studies and Science content is taught through the process of inquiry and often embedded in literacy instruction.
• K-3 and 4-5 pods will explore common themes of study that allow for the exploration and acquisition of required content
knowledge in the areas of science and social studies. Themes are rotated on a two year basis.
